Live Blood Microscopy

Find a professional for Live Blood Microscopy in Boston

In Live Blood-Cell Analysis (LBA) a high-power microscope is used to analyze a drop of living blood as a diagnostic tool.  In this test a drop of blood is placed on a glass slide, put under a dark field microscope, then projected on a video monitor to be examined.  Blood is examined for microorganisms, fungus, yeast, toxicities, indications of allergies, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, immune system, and specific organ function.  It is believed by supporters that this analysis can be used to detect disorders several years before they are detectable otherwise. Chiropractors, naturopathic physicians, herbalists, and nutritionists are the practitioners that typically utilize this diagnostic tool.  James R. Privitera, Jr., MD is a strong supporter of LBA and wrote a book called Silent Clots discussing LBA.

Since 2001 LBA had been subject to Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments 1988 (CLIA) regulations, which regulate clinical laboratory tests.  This was initiated due to a report issued by the Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General focusing on the regulation of LBA.  This report stated that the majority of State agencies think patient protection can be established by the CLIA regulation of LBA.  Supporters and providers of LBA and other unestablished laboratory tests agree that these types of tests should be regulated for patient protection, however they disagree that CLIA is the correct program to do this.  The CLIA is a program under the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
